What We Believe

The Bible is the very Word of God written, the only infallible rule of faith and practice. We believe in the plenary, verbal inspiration of the Old and New Testaments, inerrant in the original manuscripts, and preserved throughout the ages.

All people are sinners by nature, are guilty in’s sight, and because of their guilt, corruption and actual sins, are totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure. His free grace alone provides a way of salvation. This this salvation is the work of God alone.

There is one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and became flesh through his miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. By his perfect obedience and sacrificial death as the representative and substitute of his people, atoned for the sins of all who would trust in Him alone for salvation. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Father, he now is our High Priest and Mediator.

The Holy Spirit has come to glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to our hearts. He convicts us of sin and draws us to the Savior. Indwelling our hearts, He gives new life to us, empowers and imparts gifts to us for service to the glory of God.

We believe that at a time when he is not expected, Jesus will return at the last day, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.

We believe that the church is the covenant community of and the sphere within which the grace of is available to all, through the preaching and teaching of the Bible, and the administration of the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Outside the church there is no ordinary possibility of salvation.

We believe that God’s dealings with mankind, as set forth in Scripture, are to be understood in terms of covenant. All people are by nature under the covenant of works as children of Adam; but believers in Christ, together with their children, are under the covenant of grace as children of Abraham. The covenant of grace functioned in essentially the same way in the Old Testament as in the New.

We believe that covenant baptism is the New Testament sign and seal which superseded the Old Testament sign and seal of circumcision. Baptism is to be administered to believers and their children as a sign and seal of the righteousness of Christ which is received by faith. We believe that teaching in the home and in the church must warn against the errors of presumption on the one hand, and the despising of covenant privileges on the other.

We believe that God tells us how to worship Him in Scripture, and that the preaching of the Word is to be the central element of the worship service.

We believe that Christ is the head of the church and that He rules and serves His Church through the office of appointed elders and deacons.

We believe that one of the Church’s primary tasks is to evangelize the lost in the local community and around the world. This task is for every individual Christian as opportunity and gifts permit.

As essential as it is to understand the Bible properly, it is not the Bible that meets our needs, it is Jesus

Christ in the gospel. Our problems and struggles ultimately come from the fact that we are sinners and sin has broken us. God’s answer to our sin is Jesus Christ and his work. He can free us not only from guilt but also from slavery to the sin that has gripped us and makes life empty and miserable. Our main commitment is to help people understand the gospel and live out its implications in all of life. Christ and His gospel can change us from the inside out. Thus we begin to experience life as it was meant to be lived, with purpose and meaning based on the Word of God.
